Thank to Matt B for chronicling our season... 4/23 - L - Started with 5. Opponents had early success with the press. Tom H. hurt. Had to play 4 vs. 5. Bad guys had much more success with the press. Russell T. hurt. Had to forfeit. Opponents still setting up a press as we left the gym. Not an auspicious beginning. Ben M. Tom H. Russell T. Dave Cl Terry T. 4/30 - W - Close game, won by 6 over the guys we later blew out in the semis. We held a small lead throughout, they relied on one guy to shoot a ton of 3's. When he was blocked on a 3 that would have brought it within 1 in the last minute, he got pissed and kicked Beckett. He lost, we won. Mikysa Clark McAllister Tillitski Beckett guest appearance by Beckett's roommate, Justin 5/7 - L - Lost by about 12. Led by 2 at halftime, couldn't hit the ocean for the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. Game right after Chicago, against the guys we later beat in the quarters. Mikysa Clark Hoffman Gouke Beckett Thompson Weller Tillitski 5/14 - Game not played because curtain that divides gym was down and motor was broken. 5/21 - L - First game against the guys we were later to play in the finals. (and beat!) Surprised them by sticking close throughout, losing by 6 or 8. Eyewitness accounts vary on who had the ball stolen at halfcourt, but it resulted in them dunking on us. However, a well-placed Thompson shove from behind kept them from an alley-oop on the fast break. We're now 1-3, perhaps BCG resume screening needs to make height and speed an important component. Hoffman Gouke Tillitski Little Tillitski (the debut!) Beckett Thompson 6/4 - W - Won a tight game by about 6, hitting our free throws and not turning the ball over in the final 3 minutes. Our opponents were solid, but we absolutely killed them on the offensive glass. A big improvement to 2-4, we're on a winning streak! This was clearly the game that started turning around our season. Hoffman Gouke Tillitski Tillitski Beckett Weller Hoover 6/11 - W - A nice forfeit win, as the other team didn't have more than 2 of their own team show up. We'll ignore the scrimmage that took place afterwards. Future note - in a forfeited game, you probably don't need to level a guy on the breakaway 30 seconds into the game. Two games means a winning streak. Hoffman Gouke Thompson Weller Beckett 6/18 - W - This was our first blow-out win, a 20-point victory capped by Cecil hitting a jump shot in the final 2 seconds of the game. (Double-digit incentive clause in his contract?) We just started hot, rebounded the hell of out of them, and played the rock solid defense that would take us the rest of the way. 4-4, the season's looking better. Hoffman Gouke Tillitski Tillitski Beckett Weller Hoover 6/25 - W - Forfeit, they must have heard about our showing the previous week. Eight of us scrimmaged for a while, but then they kicked us out. Four straight wins, (ignoring that 2 were forfeits) we're starting to run through the competition like a certain ACC school. Hoffman Gouke Tillitski Tillitski Mikysa Clark Beckett Weller 7/16 - First round - W - Somehow we had to play our first round game against the team that had beaten us earlier in the season. This time around, we were ready to play. They entered the game with probably the best 6-6 center in the league, only to find that we had the best 6-1 center, as Dave Clark turned into Travis Watson overnight. We hit our shots, rebounded, and came out with a 10 point? win. The 16-2 start to the game certainly didn't hurt. Hoffman Tillitski Tillitski Gouke Mikysa Clark Beckett 7/23 - Semi-finals - W - The team that we defeated for our first victory managed to sneak into the semis, but we left them sneaking away with their tails between their legs. This one wasn't even funny, we were definitely clicking, and after 6 straights wins, it's finals time. Hoffman Tillitski Tillitski Gouke Mikysa Clark Beckett 7/24 - Finals - W - tough team. they were undefeated coming in. bcg had the super 7 again. before the game almost all of the guys on the other team were doing theatrical dunks. they must have thought we were a bunch of chumps. we were up by ? at the half. they were saying, "finally someone came to play." they had a coach and were videotaping the game. we defeated them by 14 (?). the clock didn't stop at the end because of the mercy rule. after the game we celebrated at fellinis.
