Highlanders vs. PT BP 2

W (26-13)

Highlanders,

we played great last night and destroyed our opponents. very solid hitting and defense early on kept us in the game until the later innings when we opened up a barrage on our opponents. after the 4th inning we were tied 8-8, after the 5th inning we were up 14-13 and in the top of the 6th we scored 12 runs, demoralizing our opponents. a quick three outs then sealed the deal.

we had 12 out and i am pretty sure that everyone got on base and either scored or had an rbi. more importantly, everyone seemed to have a good time. in the field we played equally well, making our opponents really work for the few runs they scored.

a few notes on those who made it out:

Andy - his commandeering of first base confirmed his basketball nickname, "The Glove." look for great things from this seasoned veteran.

Brent - solid pitching through the night, a handful of strikeouts and making the last out by snagging a line drive up the middle confirmed his hero status.

Caitlin - one of the team stalwarts, solid all around playing, and incredible range in the outfield. she'll teach us a lot this season.

Dave - consistent base hits and a huge presence in the field, he reeled in a hard grounder between short and third with a play-of-the-day dive. the dirt is still on his chin as evidence, and he's sent a picture of it to his mom.

Joanna - speedster of the team, she set new records for time-to-first base and covered a full acre in right field by herself. solid contact when batting, too. definitely not the rookie she claimed to be.

JP - despite a late arrival, john limbered up quickly and kept the team energized. he said, "wait till next game; i'm a bone crusher."

Katie B - all around solid play, prowled the left field like a jungle cat. will be a team mentor.

Katie R - an in-field all-star, she put it all on the line by stopping a fast grounder with her feet, risking her toes. look for great things from this grade-school softball champion.

Lane - showed she is a true multi-sport athlete by not skipping a beat in the field. also showed she can hypnotize the ump, which could prove useful later in the season.

Melodie - our stellar catcher rattled our opponents throughout the night with hard-nosed trash-talking, and solid hitting. pent up energy from her job was successfully channeled into athletic exploits.

Terry - huge presence at the plate, bouncing a few off the fence, and hints of greatness in the field. refrained from fighting with the other team, which is a good sign. left the field with, "winning is easy."

Erik - some deep hits and a few catches in center field made for a good time. Added by Andy J., "If he spent more of his time in gentlemen's clubs, he would be the Highlander's answer to Andruw Jones."

i'm looking forward to seeing you all next monday. our game is at 7:15pm. i will email you all later in the week to check availability.

best,

Erik
